33. What is a PIN or PID number? :
A PIN or PID number is a secret number
individually allocated to a telephone user.
In telemanagement, there is a difference between an
account code (or a forced account code and a PIN number) See
question: What is an account code?
A PIN or PID number does not appear in
the call report data or any reports. It is completely secret, even
the PBX technician cannot see it. It is similar to an ATM card PIN
number.
It works like this:
Telephones in an organization may be
barred from making outgoing calls, or certain types of outgoing
calls, (for example; no international calls).
A User in the organization may have
privileges beyond the standard barring,(can make international calls)
A PIN number holder can use any
telephone on the system (or sometimes on an entire network) and by
inserting the PIN number will be recognized by the PBX system and
granted personal privileges.
The telephone call record will not
contain the PIN number. Instead the call is reported against the
Users home extension.
The User can change the PIN number at
anytime, provided he is aware of the present number. The PBX
administrator can only reset a PIN number.
